Started his career in the international banking group Royal Bank of Scotland, and later in the Ministry of Economy of Kazakhstan and JSC "Economic Research Institute” .

In the "Eurasian Economic Club of Scientists “ established by the initiative of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, during 5 years he has evolved from expert to vice-president and led the preparation process of the Astana Economic Forum: program and organization.

Maxat prepared texts of speeches of the Head of State at the Plenary meetings of the Forum. He initiated introduction of the forum debates with key speakers, conducted by world media CNN, Euronews, BBC. Along with this, for the first time he introduced the lectures of Nobel Prize winners in the universities of Kazakhstan and Central Asia.

Maxat prepared on an ongoing basis analytical materials on “Trends in the global economy and impact on the economy of Kazakhstan“ to the

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, also under his leadership were issued the final recommendations of the Astana Economic Forum for the G20 countries, as well as the anti-crisis plan of the Forum to the UN.

From 2014 to 2016 he worked in the Government of Kazakhstan as Deputy Director of the strategic development department of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Kazakhstan. During this time, Maxat participated in the development of the alternative scenarios of economic development in the period of imbalances in the global energy market, forecasts of the development of the economy of Kazakhstan, as well as under his leadership was approved and developed a new format of the Strategic Plan of the Ministry of Finance.

Maxat regularly advises the committees of the largest Kazakhstan forums on the issues of world economy, global politics, regional financial economic processes, innovations and trends.
